Breakfast in Bed: 3 Sweet Valentine’s Day Recipes

Valentine’s Day is less than a week away!  Rae & I wanted to share the love and give you some ideas, both sweet and savory, for some “breakfasts-in-bed” you can make for your significant other, or yourself! You know what they say, “Life is short, eat dessert first” (they say that right?) — so first we bring you three “sweet” recipes!

1. Chocolate-Covered Cherry Smoothie

Forget the box of ooey gooey chocolate-covered cherries – you don’t have to blow your diet on Valentine’s Day!  If you or your love want a sweet treat, why not have a smoothie!  Smoothies can be both healthy AND delicious, like this one from Heather’s Dish.  But if you can’t give up the chocolate-covered cherries, I completely understand…I sort of can’t either! Love.

{Slightly modified from Heather’s Dish}

1-1/2 cups frozen dark cherries
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 tablespoon mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon good quality cocoa powder (I like Ghirardelli)
1 scoop dark chocolate protein powder
1/2 tablespoon agave syrup or other sweetener (or to taste)
Whipped cream and chocolate chips for garnish (if desired)

Place all ingredients (besides the whipped cream) into a blender and blend until combined.  Pour into a large glass, and top with whipped cream and chocolate chips if desired.  If you want to forgo the protein, just add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder instead of 1 and leave out the protein.  If you want to mix it up with other fruits, go ahead and make a chocolate-covered strawberry smoothie using frozen strawberries!  Either one is romantically delicious.

2. Cranberry Orange Buttermilk Breakfast Cake

If you are going to indulge yourself and your beloved this Valentine’s with a sweet treat, let it be this light and fluffy cranberry orange breakfast cake. Perfect for a cold winter morning, this is sure to warm your tummy and heart.

3.  Nutella Strawberry Pop Tarts

Want to surprise someone special with something easy that looks really impressive?  Look no further than these adorable Nutella strawberry pop tarts!

For directions to make these, check out the Novice Chef.  Nick loved these and deemed them “Love Tarts” — they are the perfect combination of chocolate hazelnut and strawberry jam, and the baked strawberry slice takes it over the top! Plus, if someone made these for me, I would really feel the love.  Hint hint.

With love,
Rae & Jaime
